Thread: WorkPrinter name change?

    Hi, all!

I am sure that this is at the bottom of the list in terms of priorities. However, as you know, I originally viewed the WorkPrinter as a device for doing "temp" transfers, hence the aforementioned name "WorkPrinter". Also, as you know, I have recently given in to the demands of the market and have redesigned the unit for final transfers with increased resolution, increased registration, DV compatibility, etc.

So here's the deal: Should I stick with the name "Video Workprinter"? To me, that name doesn't really seem to describe the product it has become.

Here are some ideas I had for alternate names. (Don't laugh. Agencies get paid big bucks to think of things this stupid.)

    "scan-M-eight"

    "Scan-A-matic"

    "Cine-Matic"

    "CineMate"
(to reuse the old name from the shortlived telecine projector I offered)

    "The 8mm Machine"
(which might mislead potential super 8 users; not sure)

    "Opti-Grab"
(No, wait, that was the name of the weird glasses Steve Martin invented in "The Jerk". Forget that one.)

    "Frame-Link"
    (too high tech and vague?)

    "Skank Transfer"
    (sorry, I couldn't resist)

    "AutoScan-8"

    "Scan-O-mate 8"

    "TeleScan8" or just "TeleScan"

As you can see, I am awash in pitiful ideas. I am open to suggestions. Right now, I am leaning in favor of "CineMate" or "TeleScan".

    Any input would be appreciated!

    thanks,

    Movie Stuff,

I personally like "Cine-Matic" very retro etc!

What about Cine-8-Matic or something like that?

    Roger, my favorites are:

    "CineMate"
    and
    "Skank Transfer"
    (har har)

"TeleScan" doesn't sound descriptive enough to me, and you'll get dorks asking you if it scans your TV or something.

You could also use model numbers (so your S8 and 16mm versions will be obvious!)
Here are a few of "off the top of my head" ideas: (you can keep, or drop the "8" if you think that sounds better).

    DigiScan8
    DigiScan16 (etc.)
    DV-FilmScan8
    DigiCapture8
    FrameScan8
    LiveCapture8
    LiveScan8
    RealCapture (or ReelCapture)
    RealScan
    PersonalTelecine8
TelecinePro8 (to borrow hyping marketing techniques from Super 8 Sound!)
    DigiSkank-o-Matic (my favorite!)

I can think of more if you want...

Yes. We wouldn't want dorks asking too many questions about the WorkPrinter, now would we, Matt? wink

I like "DigiScan8". Think I'll wait and see what others come up with, too, but that sounds pretty good.

Hey, come on, I'm not a dork.
    Dweeb maybe, but dork?
At least I'm a PAYING dork!
And I didn't ask you if it scans off your television!

    How about:

    MegaSkankOmeter?
    DigiHosebagO'Rama?

Whatever name you choose, you should print T-shirts that say something like "size DOES matter, and 8 is big enough for me"

When I was living in Burbank, there was this hotdog stand on the corner (I cna't remember the exact name...), and they had a huge sign on top of the building, that said something like "Joe's hot dogs, where 9 inches is just average".
Some of the town's people had a petition to force them to take it down.
I don't think they suceeded, but it was damn funny, I thought.

I like the "Cine-matic" best so far. Static-matic will also do just fine.

    Talking

    Matt,
You must be talking about the hot dog place on Hollywwod Way and Verdugo.
No more sign, new owners, new name.
I lived in the Lakeside Apts. untill 3 months ago and passed that place eveyday. Memories...
    Oh how about
The Jet Benny Super8 Space Scanner
    Or
    Uncle Rogers Wacky Super8 Scan-o-mania
"Fill your computer with Moviestuff (TM), with the new Trans Auto 8 Film Scan-o-mator-just add film"
"Where the warm glow of your imagination is turned effortlessly into cold, uncaring one's and zero's."
Just kidding, it's a fine product and I'm sure it will do well with any name.
